BrainStorm

Installation

Unzip the Files

Unzip the BrainStorm (BST) archive (about 60MB) into the directory of your choice, which will be your BrainStorm Home Directory (e.g. C:\BrainStorm).

While unzipping, be sure to preserve the directory paths in the zip file and not simply extract all files into a single directory (check the "unzip using the folder names" or alike in your zip utility).

____________

The result will be a BST home folder containing a single Matlab m-file startup.m and the following subfolders:

Custom Optionally place any customized or personal m-files here that you would like to see interact with BST. This folder is first in the path when lauching BrainStorm

Phantom Contains also the brain template data (MRI volume and surface envelope tessellations) that you can duplicate as a dummy anatomy for your own subjects when you don't own their individual MR data.
PublicToolbox Matlab toolboxes not developed by us but used by BrainStorm.
Toolbox The collection of Matlab scripts known as BrainStorm.

____________

Starting Matlab

Change directory within Matlab to your BST home directory (e.g. cd C:\BrainStorm), then type startup. Alternatively, create a shortcut for starting Matlab , such that Matlab is launched from your BST home directory.

See how this looks like when you right click on the Matlab shorcut under Windows XP to make Matlab starts with BST automatically.

Onece BrainStorm is launched, you should then see this splashscreen image on your screen.

____________

Reset BrainStorm (Optional)

If you have previously run BrainStorm on your computer and you are installing a new version of BrainStorm , we recommend the following reset action. Start Matlab without starting BrainStorm . Change directory to the Toolbox directory located in BST home directory. Type brainstorm_reset at the Matlab command line.

The function will remove any BrainStorm preferences from within Matlab and delete any default database found in the BST home directory.

____________

One-time Default Actions

If BrainStorm has been reset or this is your first time launching BrainStorm, be patient! The startup script will create a new default database in your BST home directory. Answer the Copyright notice (which will continue to appear once a week).
