Brainstorm courses

The best way to learn how to use Brainstorm, like any other academic software, is to benefit from local experts. However, you may be the first one in your institution to consider using Brainstorm for your research. We are happy to provide comprehensive online documentation and support through our forum but there is nothing better than a course to make your learning curve steeper.

We organize courses for institutions who are willing to develop a user community for Brainstorm. Please contact us to get you started locally.

New Brainstorm courses

All courses feature intensive hands-on practice of Brainstorm. Attendees bring their own laptops and go through most software features in a step-by-step, interactive way, with the assistance of at least two Brainstorm experts. No Matlab license required, runs on all operating systems! Our philosophy is to offer a personal first experience with using Brainstorm, that attendees will be able to keep alive on their laptops and share when back to their home institution. Montreal (Canada): July 11, 2012 (half-day MEG course, half-day Brainstorm practice)

Location: University of Quebec, Montreal (UQAM)

Context: This MEG and Brainstorm course will be part of a 3-day practical workshop on brain imaging techniques that will immediately follow the UQAM's Summer School in Cognitive Science (June 29-July 11, 2012).

Paris (France): August 31, 2012 (full day, including 1st Brainstorm-Users Symposium)

Location: Brain & Spine Institute, Hôpital Pitié-Salpêtrière (ICM)

Context: Satellite symposium of the 2012 edition of Biomag conference (August 25-31, 2012);

This course will feature presentations from Brainstorm users, sharing their results obtained using the software; followed bya full hands-on session using your own laptop.

The Brainstorm course was immediately following the MIT's McGovern Institute Symposium: "Magnetoencephalography: Applications to Cognitive Neuroscience", held on Friday, April 27, 2012.

Montreal Neurological Institute, McGill University (November 19, 2011)

70 participants from around Canada gathered at the Montreal Neurological Institute (Nov 17-19, 2011) for a series of lectures and practical training on MEG acquisition, data analysis, imaging and a hands-on Brainstorm course. We have received great and positive feedback from our attendees, and we are glad the meeting has met its primary objectives of providing scientists with a first technical exposure to time-resolved brain exploration and imaging with MEG and Brainstorm.

The meeting was initiated by the Canada MEG Consortium.
