Visualize Data

Before proceeding to reconstructions, we will show you how to visualize the data in simple ways, such as time courses and channel topographies.

  • Go to BST Main window->Inverse Solutions->Interactive enable the Data Viewer. Hint: Before loading the data make sure that correct data set (somDemo_av_data_Trial1.mat) is selected in Data Manager window.

  • In the time section the Start and Stop values define the time range of your data. Choose 20 and 60 to limit the visualization results in 20-60ms. You will see the channel time courses in the Time Series Visualization window. The Step is the sampling period of the channels and should remain 0.8ms in this case.

  • Move the slider bar in the time section to choose a different time point. A red bar appears on the time series that you can also drag and drop to choose another time instance. (e.g. 46.40)
  • In the Data Viewing section, choose 3D Sensor Cap instead of <No Scalp Topography> and click Plot again. You can see the topography of the surface data (i.e. MEG or EEG) interpolated onto the 3D sensor cap and the amplitude of the measured signals. Move the slider to around 0.05 seconds (about 50ms) and you will see a dipolar pattern on the left somatosensory area.

  • Alternatively choose 3D Scalp Surface and click Plot to open Surface Manager and see the dipolar patterns in Envelope Viz. To see the color codes select Colorbar in Colormap section on the Surface Manager. Click Quit to close the Surface Manager. Hint: If you can't see any patterns on the scalp make sure that the Overlay box is checked. Change the Truncate slider to threshold the image.
