View Full Version : Matlab segment fault

Hello,

I would like to know if others have encountered the following problem and, if so, whether a solution is known.

I get a segment fault from Matlab while running the Brainstorm tutorial. The error occurs when I launch inverse solutions > interactive and attempt to view a topography of any kind. All it takes is to move the slider to adjust the time point. There is no Matlab function call error - rather, I get an 'Out of Memory' error and then the large segment fault dump. This occurs under under Matlab R2007a (7.4.0.287) and R2007b on systems with both Intel and AMD processors with 2 GB of RAM. The error happens every time.

I think it may be related to Matlab because I can run the tutorial without any error or segment fault on my Intel-based laptop with 1 GB RAM running an older version of Matlab (7.0.4.385). Indeed, I can use my laptop to run the inverse solutions step on data that had been processed by Brainstorm on the systems where the segment faults occurred. That is, I use the new Matlab version to run the tutorial up to the inverse solutions step, and save the data to a server. I then open these data with my laptop and successfully run the inverse solutions from my laptop.

I have just set up a laboratory and so all of the computers have new Matlab licenses. So, I cannot easily roll-back Matlab to the earlier working version. Any suggestions on how to proceed would be welcomed. I should state that in each case (successful or not), Matlab was running under Windows XP (SP2).

Sincerely,

Thanks for your feedback. Indeed there are troubles with the newest Matlab versions, which depend also on your graphics card sometimes; it is very hard to control at our front.
Nevertheles, we are currently putting together a new version of BrainStorm which should be much more robust to face this kind of events. It should be released some time this year. Meanwhile, it seems you have found a way to work this all around.

Cheers,
