Depth weighting parameters in MNE

Hi Francois and Sylvain,

Which is the exact meaning of these parameters in MNE:

UseDepth: 1
WeightExp: 0.5
WeightLimit: 10

In WeightExp = 0.5 the same as in Fuchs et al (1999) parameter p?

If so, would p=0.5 optimal in expected diffused sources?

Fuchs, M., Wagner, M., Kohler, T., Wischmann, H.A., 1999. Linear and nonlinear current density reconstructions. J. Clin. Neurophysiol. 16, 267–295.

Thank you so much in advance
Elena

@Sylvain @John_Mosher Can you please answer these specific questions?

thank you!

In short, if UseDepth=1, there is a modulation of MN regularization with depth, to boost signal detection in deeper regions. The WeightExp and WeigthLimit are the parameters to that effect. We usually don't change these values in my lab but I encourage you to produce multiple versions on your source model by changing drastically e.g. x10-100 these parameters to observe their respective effects on a test data set.

Thanks a lot Sylvain.
