Question on types of surfaces when generating head models

Hello, everyone.

I am currently starting to learn how to perform source estimation with Brainstorm and I was wondering, when generating a head model, can both BEM and non-BEM (generated via CAT12 for example) surfaces be used? What is the difference between them?

Additionally, if one uses a template, like ICMB152, do you need to generate BEM surfaces to generate the head model via BEM?

EDIT: I realized you don't need BEM surfaces to generate head models when using templates

You could, if OpenMEEG doesn't crash, but this is not recommended.
The BEM surfaces are designed to work well with OpenMEEG.

No, use the existing surfaces.
