Hello,
Is there an easy way to add the BA areas 3R, 13, and 33 to a source level atlas? I can’t seem to find them. Also, 3L is present, but not 3R (bug?)
Thanks!

Hi @elannon
Which atlas are you using?
PALS-B12 Brodmann
Do I create a custom atlas?
Hi @elannon, thanks for reaching out.
I took a look into the resulting files from processing the MRI with FreeSurfer (7.3), and it seems there is an issue with the generated rh.PALS_B12_Brodmann.annot file, as it has the same label value for B3 and B33, so, as it is not unique it is not imported.
This happens not only with the FreeSurfer processed files, but with the fsaverage files distributed with FreeSurfer.
That's an option. You could use the provided Scout tools (Merge, Intersect, Difference) to make a Scout for R-B3
i think the issue is addressed here: freesurfer/distribution/average/PALS_B12.readme at dev · freesurfer/freesurfer · GitHub
Thank you @edelaire for the information this is indeed solved on the FreeSurfer side.
@tmedani, it seems it is time to update of the default anatomies.
@elannon, is you issue with the missing areas in the Default anatomy or in your individuals' anatomy?
Yesss,
It seems this change was made 3 years ago.
@tmedani, it was pushed in FS dev, 3 years ago, but the first stable version of FreeSurfer to have it is 8.0.0 (Feb 2025)
it was with the Default anatomy.
Thanks for the help!
Should I wait for the next update?
@elannon, the updated Default anatomy: ICBM152 2026 is now available
For that anatomy the issues with the problematic BA areas is solved
