Cortical parcellation of "Insular" cortex

Hello there,

The anterior or posterior part of insular cortex has been related to specific functional roles.
We now want to obtain the cortical source activities of anterior and posterior insular.
The default cortical parcellation using Freesurfer in Brainstorm does not separate these two area. (?)
Is there any atlas or way to deal with this problem?

Thank you in advance!

Hello,

You can draw your regions of interest manually.

If you have many subjects and want to have a reproducible way of generating these ROIs for all the subjects, you can draw the ROIs on the default anatomy (low-resolution cortex surface of the ICBM12 anatomy folder), and then project the scout on each subject. From the Scout tab, use the menu Scout > Project to.
This procedure projects each vertex individually to the subject cortex surface using the FreeSurfer registration (https://neuroimage.usc.edu/brainstorm/Tutorials/CoregisterSubjects), but does not do any morphological reconstruction of the ROI after, so it may result in a scout with a different number of vertices, or with holes or irregular shapes.
