Coupling strength Definition & Formula?

According to website,
TF: [Nsignals x 1 x 1], Coupling strength of the maximally coupled frequency pairing (maxPAC).
Does anyone know how does TF(Coupling strength) be determined?
What’s equation or formula?
Many thanks!

Hi Orson,

The method for estimation of PAC depends on the algorithm you used for its estimation in brainstorm. There are two methods implemented in brainstorm: Mean vector length (MVL) and time-resolved PAC. MVL is called PAC in the “Frequency” menu and is based on Canolty’s work (details of method can be found here: http://science.sciencemag.org/content/313/5793/1626). tPAC unlike MVL is a time-resolved measure of phase-amplitude coupling (details of method can be found here: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1053811917306195).

In terms of TF or maxPAC, these matrices reflect the coupling strength for the fp-fa pair with the strongest coupling in the comodulogram map (frequency for phase - frequency for amplitulde map).
