Error: [process_inverse_2018] Please select at least one modality

Hello everyone,

This is my first time using Brainstorm for a TMS-EEG source reconstruction analysis, and I’ve encountered an issue during the Compute Sources step. When running Sources > Compute sources [2018], I get the following error:

Error: [process_inverse_2018] Sources > Compute sources [2018]
** Please select at least one modality.
** File: Subject01/prec100/data_132_average_260211_1156.mat

In addition, due to my montage settings, the FCz and AFz channels are absent because they were used as reference and ground, respectively (the reference electrode was positioned on the mastoid). My questions are:

  1. Could the absence of FCz and AFz (because they were used as ref/ground) cause problems for source reconstruction or trigger this error?

  2. Or is this error more likely related to another issue, such as modality selection or data configuration within Brainstorm?

Any guidance or suggestions on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Hello Ivana,

If you first-time Brainstorm user, we recommend you start by following the introduction tutorials first (section "Get started" on the tutorial page), using the example dataset that is provided. By doing so, you will get familiar with Brainstorm features, processes and jargon.

With this said, let go to the questions:

Before running the process, click on the [Edit...] button, so you can select the options for the source estimation method, including the selection of the modality.

No, the error is due skipping the part of setting the source estimation options. There is no problem with the missing electrodes.
