FSAverage vs ICBM 152

Dear all,
When I coregistere my individual brain to MNI space by using brainstorm, that use the ICBM152 as template, than can i see the results on the FSAveragae template without any “big” differences, or methodologically there are problems? Or may be you have some sugestions to check better the result of the coregistration in the case I m using the FSAverage template?

Hi Luca,

Which registration is your question about?
If your goal is to estimate the sources on the FSAverage cortex surface rather than the ICBM152 template: be aware that the FSAverage cortex surface is a lot less realistic than the ICBM152 or Colin27 templates. As when using templates in general, it is not advised to constrain the orientation of the sources to the normal of the cortex.

If your question is about displaying the results you already have on the FSAverage brain: yes you can. Set the default anatomy to FSAverage, or create a new subject, set its anatomy to FSAverage, right-click on the source files > Project sources > new subject > cortex.

If none of this answers your question, please be a bit more specific of what you are trying to do.

Cheers,
Francois

Thanks Francois,
I’m projecting scouts collected in the individual subject already coregister in the MNI space (Unified segmentation) to the FSAverage. I’m wondering if, since MNI coregistration is based on ICBM152, projecting scouts on FSAverage template rather than ICBM152 could lead some “problem of correspondence”.
Luca

I'm still not really sure to understand what you want to know.
You have estimated sources on the individual subjects (surface based - you see the cortex surface when you open them), and you what to project the source maps or scouts on the FSAverage brain (set as your "default anatomy)? This you can do, you have the FreeSurfer registered spheres available for both the subject and the FSAverage anatomy. The "MNI transformation" computed from the MRI viewer has nothing to do with this process.

If this is still not the question you want to get the answer to, please post a few screen captures to illustrate your question.

Thanks Francois,
it was right the info that I need.
Thanks again
Luca

Hi François,

Is there a way to implement this transformation through functions outside the GUI?

Thanks,
Max

Select the process "Sources > Project on default anatomy", and then generated the corresponding Matlab script:
