How to compare fNIRS beta values by group?

Hi,

A colleague and I have been learning to use NIRStorm- they figured out several workarounds for different errors we received, but I am unclear on why we did some of the steps in our “pipeline”.

For my study, I collected data on cheerleader and control groups, for which I want to compare HbO, and additionally compare just the bases and flyers within the cheer group.

Currently, our solution for this is to export beta values from each trial to MatLab, paste the HbO values into excel to groups in order, then bring into SPSS and run a repeated measures ANOVA. However, I am wondering if there is an easier way for us to do my group comparisons…

Our current pipeline is this: import .snirf > convert events to simple > detect bad channels with SCI > raw to delta OD > delta OD to delta HbO, HbR, HbT > import BST trial events (with baseline set at -15s) > 1st level design and fit GLM (with .01-.10Hz 2nd order filter) > 1st-level contrast GLM (with a contrast vector of [1,0])

I was hoping to drag all the trials from each group down into process 2 A and B, and just run independent t-tests, but I get a warning that the files don’t all have the same number of channels, and an error that one file contains a data matrix of a different size.

Instead, the plan right now is to export beta values to MatLab > use custom code to split HbO, HbR, and HbT into separate columns > copy just the HbOs to add to an excel or straight into SPSS. Does this sound like my best bet? Or are there simpler methods for comparing groups?

Hello,

That is a very good question (indeed, there is easier way). I’ll try to awnser sometime next week

Great, thank you in advance for the help!
