Hello everyone,
We are pleased to release a new version of the Brain Entropy in Space and time plugin for Brainstorm featuring a few major changes:
-
A new graphical interface to use MEM,
-
A new Depth-weighting implementation for cMEM and wMEM,
-
Several improvements to wMEM localization dedicated to resting-state activity analysis.
For more information, consult Release v3.0.0 Stable release · multifunkim/best-brainstorm · GitHub
The depth weighting parameter introduced in cMEM and wMEM showed improvement in source reconstruction of deep sources (hippocampus) which has been demonstrated in Afnan et al Human Brain Mapping 2024 using extensive simulations with MEG and HD-EEG and clinical MEG and HD-EEG for epilepsy patients.
We also introduced a new initialization of wavelet based MEM (wMEM), including a new approach to define the noise-covariance matrix when localizing resting state data. The ability of wMEM to accurately reconsctruct oscillatory patterns has been validated in comparison with intracranial EEG data Afnan et al Neuroimage 2023
For more information on how to use MEM, consult the two following tutorials:
- General introduction to MEM: https://neuroimage.usc.edu/brainstorm/Tutorials/TutBEst
- Application of MEM to epilepsy: https://neuroimage.usc.edu/brainstorm/Tutorials/Epilepsy#A.28Advanced.29_Source_analysis:_MEM_inverse_solution
If you encounter any issue with his new version, please let us know
Note: This new version of MEM changed the default parameter used for cMEM and wMEM. If you wish to continue using the previous setting, consult: https://neuroimage.usc.edu/brainstorm/Tutorials/TutBEst#A.28Advanced.29_Change_of_default_parameters_.28v3.0.0.29
