Creating a volume element from scout or surface

Hello everyone,

I am trying to use the results of source localization on a surface to get a volume mask of the patch of cortex responsable for epileptic activity. Is there any way to generate a nifti image from a surface by adding an arbitrary depth to it (like 1-2mm inwards)?

Thank you very much for any help or insight!

Hi @Squiyk, that is an interesting question. Yes, there is now a way to do so, we just added to Brainstorm the option to export surface scouts as MRI mask. Commit 1d4fd68
Update your Brainstorm instance to get this feature.

The idea then would be to create a surface Scout on the zone of interest on the cortex, then use the menu Scout > Export as MRI mask.

Note that this mask relies on the registration of the cortical surface and the MRI.
