The Magnetoencephalography Core Facility of the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda Maryland is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow.
About the position
Prospective candidates will participate in a funded NIH Brain Initiative project to develop a novel optically pumped magnetometer (OPM) system, capable of mapping portions of the cerebral cortex at millimeter scale resolutions, as a non-invasive alternative to intracranial electroencephalography. This project is a collaboration with FieldLine Inc., and it will involve the development and testing of a novel sensor design optimized for high resolution OPM MEG. This Postdoctoral position will be under the supervision and mentoring of Dr. Allison Nugent, the MEG Core Facility Director. Selected candidates will be integral to the construction, calibration, and application of this new system to clinical populations. Selected candidate will collaborate specifically with the NINDS Neurophysiology of Epilepsy Unit to test our novel sensors in a clinical population.
Candidates should have obtained a PhD in physics, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, neuroscience, or related fields. Programming skills are essential, preferably in Python. Direct experience with OPM sensors and/or MEG is also desirable, but not required. However, successful candidates will likely have experience with some form of biomedical sensor instrumentation (MRI, fNIRS, EEG, etc.) and/or electronics research. Experience with neuroimaging data acquisition and data is also desirable. Excellent written and spoken communication skills, as well as fluency in English, are required.
