Average FFT and Spectrograms from different subjects

Hi,

I calculated FFTs and Spectrograms (Time-frequency (Morlet) from 12 brain slices. Each FFT and Spectrogram is under each subject (Subject1 -FFT1, PSD1; Subject2-FFT1 and PSD1, Subject3-FFT1 and PSD1 and so on).

Could anyone please explain how do I calculate the overall average of FFTs and PSDs from 12 brain slices (Subjects)?

What I am aiming at is average FFT from 12 slices, and average Spectrogram (Time-frequency (Morlet) from the same12 slices.

Thank you.

Hello @JCKPSD,

Since you want to compute the across-subjects average, it is recommended to normalize the FFT and the Spectrograms.

Once you have do that, average across subjects by drag-and-dropping the 12 normalized FFT files in Process1 tab and select the process Average > Average files, with the option Everything. Then repeat for the normalized Spectrograms.

Many thanks Raymundo, for the quick reply. It worked.

If I consider the FFTs or Spectrograms from 12 slices as one “group”, say Control Group and another set of 12 slices as Mutant Group and compare the Differences in FFTs or PSDs between these groups, should I follow the same method you mentioned or shall I add the recordings (link to recordings) to process 1, and in the ‘Process Options’ click ‘Edit’ and in the ‘Output’ select ‘Save average time-frequency maps (across trials)?

Thank you.

Forgot to mention that in this case, my aim is to compare the differences of FFTs and Spectrograms in Control Group Vs Mutant Group.

Thank you.
