"Because your data are worth it", as the beauty scientist Edward L'oreanz used to say, your data, specially raw data, does not need to be ugly, it can be as radiant by using the butterfly effect.
This year, committed with low-commitment but high-visibility science, the Brainstorm team brings to you aesthetic filters for your raw and imported data. Let's be sincere, you would not post an unedited selfie, so why would you do that with your data?
Take your figure from pretty Nature to mesmerizing Vogue!
Af first glance, these well-intentioned, low-effort filters look like any other photo app filter, however they are not. They make use of a sham cost function which minimizes the complexity layers, while maximizing the beauty layers. As first approach, we introduced three filters, check their results:
The Ghiblier, this filter if design to smooths out the rough edges of your volumes and surfaces, leaving an enchanting, dreamlike version of itself. Do not get fooled, these files will now have an magical realism.
The MakeUp-value, just as our skin, hypotheses can have imperfections that can be softened with MakeUp(-value), to give them a that needed little enhancement. But do not worry, this is not forging data! No, this filter is about applying a bit of concealer to cover up those imperfections without changing the integrity of your research.
The Retro, Often newer technologies and methods feel too perfect, not natural. This filter allows to recover that rough and analog charm that made science feel more authentic back in the day. MEG like in the 80s! Who does not enjoy retro technologies, apply this filter on current MEG signals to get that 14-sensor data as in Yamamoto 1988!
Tip It is 2025, do not feel ashamed of outsourcing a bit the annoyance of thinking of pretty figures to an AI. After all, Trust the process. Trust the algorithm. Trust that your data has never looked this good!!!
